Co-existence of Blockchain and existing Digital Infrastructures
Many discussions about blockchain assume that you either have to go all-in on blockchain or stick with legacy digital infrastructures. However, due to the strong network effects of eco-systems, new and old, it’s not that simple. For the foreseeable future, blockchain networks will co-exist with legacy infrastructure networks, so the key to delivering the full benefits of blockchain to all participants is the secure and efficient integration to existing digital infrastructures.
For the most common use case, payments, this means that users are provided with benefits without realizing that they are using different underlying networks. Basic payments use the traditional payment infrastructure while intelligent payments with rules (smart contracts) are delivered by a blockchain network.
